          GENERAL SUMMARY

          The position of the Certified Surgical Technician within the Department of Surgical Services is based on the philosophy of Peri-Operative Nursing developed by AORN. The Surgical Technician participates in the peri-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases of the patients’ experience. These activities are based on the theory, that the care of the Surgical Patient is based on creative application of knowledge, skills, and inter-personal competencies. The ultimate goal of this position is to assist in the provision of quality individualized Patient Care. The role of the Surgical Technician varies and may include, but is not limited to, peer education, maintenance of the sterile field, advocacy, efficient provision of resources, maintenance of supply inventory, enforcement of standards and integration and coordination of care across the surgical setting.
          MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

          A. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

          Graduate from an approved course in Surgical Technology or related curriculum, Current BLS certification, current certification with the National Association of Surgical Technologists.

          B. Required Length and Type of Experience

          At least two years experience in a multi-disciplined OR in an acute care hospital setting preferred.

          C. Required Licensure, Certification or Registry

          Current BLS certification,

          Current certification with the National Association of Surgical Technologists.
